Türkiye’s election authority has affirmed the validity of votes for opposition candidate Muharrem Ince in Sunday’s election regardless of his last-minute withdrawal from the presidential race.
Talking to reporters on Saturday, Supreme Election Council (YSK) Chairman Ahmet Yener stated that they received Ince’s petition on Friday to stop the race.
Yener stated that in step with Article 12 of Regulation No. 6271, the board concluded that the votes forged for Ince needs to be accepted as legitimate.
Till Friday, Ince was one among 4 candidates within the presidential race together with Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who’s looking for reelection, most important opposition chief Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, and Sinan Oğan.
Regardless of Ince’s withdrawal from the presidential race, his Homeland Occasion continues to be competing for seats in parliament.
On Sunday, Türkiye will go to polls to elect a president and likewise members of the 600-seat parliament.
